It is a blend of two minerals, zinc and magnesium, in their aspartate forms, and a vitamin, Vitamin B-6 or pyridoxine. All these three are vital for the biological processes of the human body. A deficiency in any of the two minerals can hinder the growth and development of the muscle mass and can also show an impact on the performance of an athlete.

How does it work?

It is a well known fact that extensive exercise can lead to lower levels of testosterones, the hormone that helps in muscle building. With ZMA supplementation, the testosterone levels can be restored back to normal which have reduced due to extensive training sessions. The role of zinc is especially important in the production of testosterone.

According to the latest researches, ZMA has proven results to be the best testosterone enhancer that would not only help in muscle growth but also aid muscles recovery.

Benefits of ZMA Supplementation

Popularity of ZMA is attributed to its benefits that have been experienced by bodybuilders, weightlifters and athletes.

  • It helps to increase the testosterone levels which in turn helps in muscle growth
  • It is sleep inducing which leads to faster muscle recovery
  • Magnesium in ZMA helps in muscle contractions and thus reduces muscle cramps and pulls
  • It increases the Human Growth Hormone (HGH) levels in the body

Extensive exercise routines and strenuous activities deplete the levels of zinc and magnesium in the body. ZMA supplementation can help body to restore these levels and help in performing better.

How to use it?

When picking up a ZMA supplement, the important thing is that the zinc and magnesium must be in their aspartate form, and not in any other compound form. One can individually pick up zinc and magnesium supplements but to get the synergistic effect, the ratio is extremely important. The two minerals and the vitamin B-6 should be present in the specified ratio per serving:

  • 30 mg of the zinc monomethionine aspartate,
  • 450 mg of the magnesium aspartate
  • 11 mg of Vitamin B-6

ZMA supplements should be taken at bed time on an empty stomach, at least 2 hours after the last meal. A thirty minute gap must be given before taking any additional supplement after ZMA.

ZMA supplements should not be clubbed with calcium rich products as calcium blocks the absorption of zinc.

ZMA, a blend of two minerals - Zinc and Magnesium, shows remarkable efficacy in sports performance. Not only does it enhance the muscle strength in athletes and bodybuilders but also increases anabolic hormonal level.
